The future car is being transformed into a multimedia communications center, with a strong focus on comfort and convenience and the need for minimal driver distraction. Next-generation cars will have an integrated system supporting the driver with a variety of information like car status, navigation, communication, and driver assistance. Infotainment systems will gradually extend their reach, with GPS and cellular technology, for example, providing a cost-effective means of enabling mobile access to Internet and Internet-based services. These features will use a variety of displays that will replace existing information in today’s dashboards.
